Electric or Acoustic Guitar Course |
Jesse Hoff Ray In the guitar class you will start by learning scales, fingering, chords and melodies and use these to play, initially, simple blues motifs. Also covered is notation, including key, time signature and harmonic theory. Interspersed throughout the course will be discussions on various guitar techniques, including rock and pop, jazz and funk, when appropriate technical grounding is attained. Later classes will look at the different guitar instruments available to players, and look at the differences in style these instruments engender. You will practice scales, finger exercises and arpeggios to gain finger strength and independence. You will also practice simple guitar pieces and work on improvisation over a simple chord progression. You will learn how to construct chords on the guitar, as well as inversions and extensions, and look at various guitar pieces to identify the chords that the composer is using. Students may also have the chance to perform with a group as part of an end-of-session gig.
